Oniryczni my – lockdown version
On February 20, 2020, there was premiere of our first album, Go! It took several years to develop it. In the album Go! you can read more about it. Thanks to the release of the album, we took on new and interesting challenges, such as concerts and promotion.
Later, however, the COVID-19 virus appeared in the world, which also happened to Poland, which unfortunately thwarted our plans. Nevertheless, after the first shock and sadness, we only had to recover and start working. And although it is still not possible to play a concert with more people, but we hope. 馃檪
So the idea arose to create a song without leaving home, in which everyone composes their own parts and records them with the available means.
We started with a guitar pilot. It requires a completely different method of development than the one we used to create our songs.聽 We often play jam together or someone comes up with a topic that we all play together and we discuss how we will fill everything. Often weeks or months of rehearsal and discussions about what to do next. Sometimes we record it and then we correct it. At some point, there are demos in which the sound is already partially worked out. If we think the songs are going well at some point, we start with real recordings where we try to complete the process of creating specific numbers.
It was impossible when creating “Oniryczni my”, and communication was particularly difficult. Not everyone can easily communicate over the Internet, and most have never recorded themselves. Working in a group and pointing out what you were doing right and what was wrong didn’t work unless you had a lot of time.
In order not to complicate it too much, I (Barry van der Biezen in the role of producer) decided to give everyone as much freedom as possible with what they play, what sound they choose and how they feel the song. Most of the time I can hear songs in my head and therefore know how to work. In this case, I didn’t do it and started with the recordings I received. I tweaked the sound as much as possible to fit well with the mix. This is the only way to compose a song and perform it in a reasonable amount of time and make it available online.
“Oniryczni my” differs from our other songs in both sound and atmosphere. It is especially lighter and easily accessible.
As always, it won’t be for everyone, although I think the track has many more aspects than just “good” or “bad” “nice” or “not nice”. Listen deeper and try to experience it your way.
This song is a good gesture at this special time. So it is certainly possible to create music together remotely, although it requires a different way of working and therefore practice.
